PROBABILITY MEANING AND PROBABILITY EXAMPLE

Probability

• Probability means संभावना, Chance or possibility

• In Mathematics, it is used to predict how likely events are to happen

predict only the chance of an an event to occur

• Probability range from 0 to 1,

○ 0 means the event is an impossible one and

○1 indicates a certain event.

• Probabilities are usually expressed as fractions, decimal numbers or percentages

Probability of

 event to happen P(E)         =Number of favorable outcomes

                                              Number of possible outcomes

                                       total number of outcomes

Few Important Terms

Sample Space

• The set of all the possible outcomes to occur in any trial

• Tossing a coin, Sample Space (S) = {H,T}

  • Rolling a die, Sample Space (S) = {1,2,3,4,5,6}

Experiment or Trial

  • A series of actions where the outcomes are always uncertain. nere the outcom

• The tossing of a coin, throwing a dice.

Event

• It is a single outcome of an experiment

• Getting a Heads while tossing a coin is an event.

Example : : Calculate the Probability is tossed Once of getting Head, when a Coin is tossed once
Solution
Sample Space (Total Outcomes) : (H, T) = 2
Number of Favourable Outcomes =1
•P(H) = Number of  Favourable Outcomes
•P(H)=1/2

Example 2: Calculate the probability of getting Red balls
Solution Total Outcomes (Sample Space) = 7 Red Balls + 5  Blue Balls = 12
Number of Favourable Outcomes=7
P(red)=7/12
P(blue) = 5/ 12
